Musik drückt das aus, was nicht gesagt werden kann und worüber zu schweigen es unmöglich ist.
Victor Hugo |
Like no other that proverb reflects how the different styles of music expanded my horizon. It let me discover house and rock to hypnotic tribal beats, whilst also being a refuge when listening to the drifting away sounds of ambient and downbeat. It inspires to experiment with techno and delights each time anew by the power of atomsphere breaks.
All things called electronic music began in early youth short after the fall of the Berlin wall, when listening to the Steve Mason Experience, then on Radio BFBS and under my blanket as at that time techno was often negatively associated somehow. Discovering electronic music that way, the journey into sound quickly resulted in DJing a wide sound scape, merging ground-breaking new stuff with classics. A little later Nick Warren’s set in Prague, the actual kick-off of Global Underground, brought further inspiration which still persists today. At first on my own initiative, and later together with DJ buddy Peer Benary, I rocked together with crowds in Eastern Europe, South Africa as well as South America and of course at my own doorstep: in Berlin.
In the course of time and also due to technical development, photography more and more gained influence on my creative work. A camera became my constant companion; promoters, people as well as artists felt photogenic and quickly the first digital single-lens reflex camera stepped into my life. From then on photography became more and more professional, resulting in a specialisation on travel documentation, potraits and available light, the catching of lights and atmosphere without flash. Rocking until early morning hours and true to the motto »right in the middle, not only near by« , that’s the recipe of taking expressive photos which are much more different and eye-catching than usual snapshots.
My wide-ranging music taste, connected with a grain of analytics, quickly broke new ground in all things called music journalism. In the moment I am working for the Amsterdam based international dance music magazine 365MAG, as well as for Filter27, hailing from New York, and East Europen Sound Revolt, coming from Warsaw.
Curiosity always lets me see further than the end of my own nose; so I started contributing to Resident Advisor (RA). After a few cooperations for that surely bigger but also headless online community, I abandoned collaboration as basic values of teamwork such as reliance and constructiveness were not given. Only when being someone’s lover, room mate or brother in dope, promises are kept, articles don’t become sanitized to meet music industry expectations and photo copyrights not violated.
